So so so so dead
This was a sad loss, again, after Titans take a 7-3 lead against the Chargers, and manage to lose 27-17.
Again, Titans find themselves with an early lead and with, what looks like, a competent offense. It’s just enough every week, for you to watch that first drive, and say, “wow, we may be an actual football team”. Then they stab you in the heart and say nope, here’s 24 unanswered points in a quarter baby.
My take last week that Levis needed the weeks off, was not 100% wrong. Say what you want, it was a terrible sloppy game we had no chance of winning, but Levis looked better than he had before the injury. Not miles better, but there was no devastating turnover to directly point to us losing the game. I’m not saying I loved the performance or anything, and he’s certainly not the future, but it was better.
The real issue with this game was special teams and play calling. Special teams has been our absolute killer all season. Wanna hear a stinky fact? Titans have a top 3 defense in the league in rushing yards, passing yards, and all purpose yards. They have the last ranked special teams in the league and a bottom 3 points allowed. Do you see the connections here? People love to forget about special teams until they are single handedly losing you games and brain cells. When you’re special teams is that bad, you’re not only giving up free points to blocked punts/field goals and massive returns, but you immediately put your defense in a terrible position. If you give up a 50 yard kickoff return, your defense goes from being creative and trying different blitzes and coverages, to playing catch up. Defense gets on the field after that and immediately has to have the bend but don’t break mentality, because the Chargers just started their drive on our 45 and they have Justin Herbert and Jim Harbaugh.
It is the most frustrating way to lose football games. It’s like shooting yourself in the foot seconds before you have to run a race. Why do we keep putting ourselves at a disadvantage, I will never understand. It’s special teams. I know I sound like a normie non-football guy saying that, because obviously special teams are important, but lets think about if for a second. Most of the players on special teams are young, project players, with something to prove. You don’t put guys on special teams because you need a body (in most situations), you need guys with something to prove. If you put somebody out there who thinks they’re too good for special teams, chances are, they’ll either get cut or never play. Now what this means, is that the Titans have possibly the worst special teams coaching ever. When you have 15-20 special teams players, these are guys who want to make the team and make a difference, none of them are letting up these big plays due to lack of effort. We have just been extremely out coached and schemed on Wefense (and kinda offense but that’s another rant).
Brian Callahan didn’t do himself any favors this game either. I understand Levis is coming off injury and hasn’t played great this season, but why was his only long ball a touchdown? Why did we never try again? Calvin Ridley obviously had something going (besides being a good receiver) , and he barely touches the ball the rest of the game. Right before halftime, we don’t even try the 50 yard hail mary, we run a draw up the middle. It just feels like the more we progress, the more nobody trusts anybody else on this team.
I’m tired man. Titans take a toll on you after long enough. We’re currently #3 on the draft board. Still don’t really know that means yet, but it feels like we’re gonna have a stinky draft. I’m sorry! I don’t want it to be true, my confidence in everything the Titans do has been shaken so bad, I could see us drafting the biggest bust in history, just to see if we can do it.
Alls I knows, is that the Titans are so super dead booty ass checks.
Haters are great, not a care in the world.
Titans play the super fun, crazy plays, comeback quarterback Vikings next week. I know Vikings fans have had their fair share of heartbreak, but it’d be so fun to be a Vikings fan right now.
Titans 14 – Vikings 35 with at least 1 special teams or defensive touchdown
