Little did we know we’d get an instant classic this week between two of the worst teams in the NFL.
Titans find a way to win their 2nd (that’s 2!) win of the season. Titans played their most entertaining game of the season, with most of the team looking like they wanted to get paid to play football.
It’s hard to say where this bump of energy and competence came from. Were we simply due a win now that Callahan is gone? Was the team motivated to beat Sheduer Sanders? The Titans kept mocking him, throwing up the wrist celebration. Why was this game so personal?
Obviously Cam and Shedussy were compared in every way all the way through the draft process, and while there was a little shit talking, there was no real bitterness. Just a fun competition between two supposed to be top picks. If anything, you would think the Browns and Sheduer would have issue with Cam and the Titans, but we played with something to prove for the first time all year.
With that being said, Shedussy outplayed Cam. Flat out outplayed him. Cam had some clutch big throws and made plays when he had to, but finished with desirable numbers and nothing super exciting. He wasn’t bad, but the Browns were moving the ball all over the field. Shedussy wasn’t great, don’t get me wrong, but he threw for 300 yards and looked better than anybody else they’ve had all year too.
The story of the game was the Titans offensive line, defense and RBs.
The offensive line truly impressed me. Myles Garrett is completing his historic season, looking to break the all time single season sack record, and he was totally held in check on Sunday. Titans got lucky by signing the tackle with some of the most reps in the league against Garrett. Dan Moore held his own better than he has most of the year, and actually looked like he was worth all the money. The Titans line was not dominant, but they held their own against a very strong defense and the skill players made plays when it mattered
If not for Myles Garrett, Jeffery Simmons is having a DPOY type season. He was a monster on sunday, bullying and abusing the Browns offense anyway he wanted. T’Vondre Sweat, Cedric Gray, and Kevin Winston Jr all played extremely strong as well, and should be some blue chip pieces to build a defense around. Cedric Gray has proven to be one of the most reliable, and athletic, MLBs in the game. With the pick, fumble recovery, and leading the team in tackles, he’s proving every week that he deserves to be here.
Lastly the running back room shook the whole league this week. Tony Pollard having a career day, breaking his longest rush and most rushing yards in a game, adding 2 touchdowns. Tyjae Spears looked extra fast, great with the ball in his hands in open space. and we’re finally trying to do that.
The team still certainly has a ton of stuff to work on, however this game gave me more hope than i’d had all season. It showed that we have some pieces who can play, they just need good consistent development, and a coach to guide them through that. We’re still desperately in need of a top player at a skill position. With how the league runs today, we’ll never be able to compete without an elite WR, TE or RB. But we’re headed in the right direction, and that’s the first time I’ve felt this way all year.
Titans move on to the 49ers this week. Could we see another big game from the boys? Will CMC and their defense put me in hell? Who’s to say.
Titans are still dead, but we’re also 1-0 in our last 1.
Haters didn’t care about the win, but we did.
