We’re back! And, we’re back?
In the past couple weeks since the regular season has ended, the Tennessee Titans have been making some moves.
Titans hired Mike Borgonzi (Italian) as the new GM. He was the assistant GM in Kansas City for the past several years, and supposedly has tons of experience building a winning team. Who’s to say if it was actually just Patrick Mahomes and his voodoo magic.
Borgonzi and Chad Brinker (President of Football Operations) met with the media early this week, and had some good things and some not so good general bullshit to say.
Obviously, Brinker has been questioned relentlessly about the quarterback situation, and I think he’s just a fed up with it as we are. Is that good? I really don’t know. Of course, we’ll have to be patient to see how everything shakes out as far as potential free agents and how draft boards comes together, but the new tandem duo has told us a few things they’re looking for in a QB. Strong arm talent, good head on his shoulders, and strong leadership roles. That’s awesome. Sounds like what every person who has ever watched football would say about their ideal QB. They also stated that they would not pass up on a “Generational Player”. Who that is, I’m not sure either. Travis Hunter is a generational talent, but makes no sense for the Titans to go after him, especially after paying Sneed and Awuzie so much money, and Brownlee Jr emerging as a legitimate starting DB. The other potential “Generational Talent”, I think would be Abdul Carter. To me, he’s basically Michah Parsons reborn. Same style build and player, super fast off the ball and getting upfield.
I genuinely don’t think when they say that, that they’re talking. about either of the top QBs in this class. From what i’ve seen, Shadeur looks like he keeps falling down draft boards. A month ago, he was arguably a top 3 pick, now I’m seeing him bottom of the first round. I like Ward better, and he’s still at the top of the draft class, but he just doesn’t move the needle for me.
I do think the Raiders and Cowboys have huge parts to play in this whole saga as well. Either one of those teams hire Deion, things could get real weird real fast. Trades could happen from either team, which apparently the Titans have already received several calls about.
I’m still largely among the boat of, trade back, acquire as much draft capital as possible, and build from within, like Borgonzi has said.
We can manage one more year of bad football if it means we have a competent team surrounding a better rookie QB in two years. I’d way rather expect, and have one more bad season, than throw a rookie QB into the fire and watch them burn. Especially when we still have so many things to fix.
If we draft Ward (who I’d rather have) or Shadeur, of course I’ll buy in and cheer for these guys. But I just don’t see it. I am just a dude, but after watching a lot of film, neither one impress me half as much as guys in the past have. There’s no Jaden Daniels, Justin Herbert, Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield. There’s not even a Justin Fields. Especially coming from Colorado and Miami, I’m just not impressed.
All in all, I actually very happy with the hire. I think Borgonzi is the best equipped to help this team grow right now, and he talked extensively about building the offensive line, maybe our biggest issue since ‘21. Will the Titans help him help the team? Who’s to say.
My biggest fear, is that we fall into the same old shit bad NFL teams do. Try to make a splash in the draft, destroy the kid’s career (I’m older than these guys now I can call them kids even though it’s gross to think I’m older than them), and fire the coach/GM.
If things fall apart, I’m calling my shot here. Callahan is fired first and gets talked about like he was “Never really ready for the job” . Then we hire a new coach, try to make a splash again, fail, Borgonzi gets fired. Then we hire a new GM, fire somebody else, and keep trucking down this endless path of sadness. It’s almost the exact thing that happened to Vrabel and Ran, except Vrabes had 6 years (Because he was winning games, was fired as soon as we started trending downward, due to John Robinson trying to make a splash). Scapegoat after scapegoat, pointing the finger on anybody but the owner.
Can we also just mention that Miss Amy has been avoiding press conferences, and just talking to the press in general? That makes me feel really good about my team. When the owner is either too scared to face the bright lights, or too stuck up and stubborn to think she needs to talk to us, that’s usually the sign of a good organization, right? Especially after firing 3 different upper level personnel in 3 years. Right?
Titans still dead.
Haters are fine, they’re not impressed with this QB class either.
