Checking on the Haters

  • It’s Officially Over

    October 23rd, 2023

Emergency meeting, sound the alarms. I was not planning to write anything this week, but due to some unseen circumstances and horrible developments, here we are. The NFL waits for nobody.

The Titans did it, they found a way to lose to the Bye Week and hurt me even more.

He’s gone. Kevin Byard. KB31_Savage. They took him from us. The last remnants of a good Titans team is gone. Derrick is all who remains, now the longest tenured Titan. I can still remember watching the 2016 draft, Kevin Byard, Free Safety out of MTSU, drafted in the 3rd round. I remember watching his highlights, pure ballhawk, impressive punt returner and a total vibes guy. He ran the defensive locker room, being the vocal leader pretty much since he came in. He’s an All-Pro, tied for most picks in 2018 with 8, and has truly been the embodiment of Vrabel’s culture. Now he’s gone. And I am very sad. I knew it might happen, but not like this, not to the Eagles. I wouldn’t say this hurts more than AJ Brown being traded, but it’s a different kind of pain. AJ has the god-given talent to be a Hall of Famer, but Kevin? He was the Titans defense, he had to prove himself and was one of the first guys to completely buy in. No drama, no injuries, just great football, not to mention everything he did for the community. And they snatched him away.

If I keep talking about him I might cry, so instead I am going to rant about what I would do with my GM hat on, since we’re obviously selling house.

Now That We’ve Given Up, What Now?

You may be asking, “Preston, what are we to do?”, and my only answer is we’re gonna have to be really, really bad. The only logical thing, in my convoluted mind, is to completely sell house and get as many picks as possible. The bad news? Nobody wants to trade with us. We got a 5th, 6th and Terrell Edmunds ( I’m gonna have to watch some more film on him before I make any hasty decisions ), which only does so much. My insider sources ( Twitter ) are saying teams don’t have serious interest in Derrick henry right now, and I don’t blame them. Only a contender would be interested in a 29 year old bowling ball. Derrick still has a lot in the tank, but with how the RB market has been, it makes sense. Trade deadline is next week, so if we find a way to trade Derrick, we’d be lucky to get a 3rd rounder. I love Derrick, one of my all time Titans, but we can’t keep doing this to him. If you love something, set it free, and we need to set Derrick free, we just most likely won’t get much. He just deserves so much more than a dysfunctional rebuild, lead by Malik Willis and Will Levis. Yucky!

Who else do we trade? I’d be surprised if we ship Tannehill with him being on the last year of his contract, and him being booty. I’d be surprised if we trade Big Jeff, he should be the piece to build the defense around and he’s going to have to step up even more as the vocal leader in the locker room with Kevin being gone. So who does that leave us? I don’t know! Maybe Harold Landry, who just signed a massive 5 year 87.5 million dollar deal in 2022. Maybe Kristian Fulton, who’s been very mid this year, meaning not a lot to work with as far as trade value. It’s so clear now that there truly was no plan this offseason on the direction of the team. It seems more and more like Ran just told Miss Amy that they could fix this team without a full rebuild with no real plan, and now we’re pressing the panic button, smashing it if you will. Signing Deandre Hopkins makes it so prevalent how little this all was thought out. I love Deandre, but how does that fit the team right now? How does giving him 54.5 million over two years help this team rebuild? How does trading Kevin and taking the heart out of the defense equal competitive football? Something doesn’t add up! It all feels like we thought we were going to be competitive, maybe even win the AFC South, and now that Tannehill is down ( and still booty ) and we’re 2-4, Miss Amy has had enough.

I am truly racking my brain trying to think of a situation where we can get the most value out of our guys, and doing them a favor by sending them somewhere not here, but i’m struggling. Maybe i’m too emotional right now to figure it out, maybe there is no solution, maybe i’m the problem!

I can’t talk about this anymore, I don’t know what else to say except we have no direction, no life, and no hope. A fellow unfortunate Titans fan told me today, the Titans aren’t even a team and it’s really weird how the NFL only has 31 teams instead of an even 32.

I truly hope that Kevin gets a SuperBowl, he deserves it, even if it means the Eagles winning. The Titans are so super mega dead, and I am lost.

Haters have won the bye week. At least we get to wear the throwback Oilers’ jerseys this week. Woohoo! It’s hard to even get excited for the Britches Report anymore.

    Not currently taking questions.
