Breaking News : Titans won a game! The most improbable, silly, self deprecating win a team can have. Titans win 22-21 at the Cardinals on Sunday, creating what many are calling, “the worst loss in Cardinals history”. Incredible feeling to be on the opposite side of that. What a win, what a rush.
I need to get this out of the way now ; the Titans did not play well and did not deserve this win. However. They did continue to play hard and fight the entire game, which is a huge improvement from the rest of this season. Cardinals imploded on themselves in a way we could only dream of.
Cardinals started off hot, looking like Marvin Harrison JR’s breakout game. Then something crazy happens. Halftime comes, it’s 21-6, and the Titans don’t give up? The Cardinals start coasting? Neither of these team have been in this situation this year. We didn’t know what to do, it wasn’t our fault.
Cardinals perform their own Cardinal sin of fumbling right before getting in the endzone on a 70 yard run. On first glance, Sneed gets there and punches it out, buts even worse than that. Ball was out of Demercado’s hands well before Sneed got there. This just happened last week with the Colts. You know 1000% every team talked about that this week coming in. Cardinals giving this game away part 1.
Can Ward throws the most disgusting Titans touchdown in the history of the NFL. Cam Ward’s pass is tipped and intercepted, followed by an immediate unforced fumble, to Tyler Lockett getting his first Titans TD. What a play. I truly have never seen anything like that. We’ve seen fumbles recovered in the endzone, we’ve seen fumbles interceptions, but we’ve never seen together. Like chocolate and peanut butter, a perfect combo. I can rest easy knowing Cam Ward got his first career win in the NFL off of the weirdest game ever played. Cardinals giving the game away part 2.
Then the game winning drive. Cardinals choke away the win again, running 3 times in a row for a quick punt to give the Titans the ball. Lazy, uninspiring play calling by the Cardinals, giving the game away part 3.
Cam Ward then, after all the stinkiest parts of this game, puts together his best drive of his career. Some absolute strikes downfield. His arm alone makes me feel better about is as a whole. He’s had some accuracy issues early in this year, ripping bullets barely behind. But this drive, he was electric. The over the shoulder pass to Ridley down the sidelines was the perfect ball. Could not be placed in a better spot. Huge growth on that drive for them both, and it shows what we can be as a team. Was it in 2 minute against softer defense? Perhaps. But it’s still improvement, and that’s all we’re looking for.
Cam Ward looked a little off to start the day, but ultimately he came around. He’s got a cannon of an arm and can truly put it anywhere, he’s just got to grow a bit. Titans got a huge needed win, and i’m happy for the boys. Lord knows they needed a win. Callahan survives another week. I’m not ready to say this is a gateway to more wins, but I’ve started thinking about it.
Titans move on play the Raiders in Las Vegas next week. Another self-imploding team that just got the brakes beat off them. Another weird Titans win? Who’s to say. Gotta go 1-4 to go 13-4.
Haters didn’t like this win.
Titans are alive!
