Howdy Haters.
We’ve been away for quite a while, missing the end of the postseason, new coach, the draft, offseason and free-agency, even preseason, but we’re back.
Know who else is back? Titans baby.
I’ve been away finding myself after the mess of last season, putting on my detective hat and gathering evidence, crunching numbers, and watching film. The only thing I can say for certain after all this time? We might be back.
Since we missed several big talking points this offseason, I am going to give my most important thoughts on the Titans draft, offseason, and a week one preview.
Haters Country, Lets Ride
Draft
Let me start off saying I loved the Titans draft. It was extremely refreshing to see this new Titans regime take players who were actually highly talented dependable players instead high risk high reward projects. I will admit, I was skeptical of Ran, I hated the Vrabel firing, and I was even questioning Miss Amy. However, they have proven me a fool, because I am more excited for the this team than I have been in 3 years. Titans filled some huge holes (pause) in the team with guys who 1: look like they love football, 2 : are highly dependable players with high floors, and 3 : massive big boys.
JC Latham at the left tackle with Peter Skoronski last year make this one of the tougher, more explosive sides of an offensive line in the league with tons of upside.
T’Vondre Sweat, Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. Massive. The combination of him and Jeffery Simmons on the inside is going to be a problem for teams. His easiest comparison is Jordan Davis, purely off size and power, but Sweat feels like he wants it more (yes that is bias).
Offseason
I don’t think in my entire Titans fandom, we have ever been this aggressive in an offseason. In the past, the Titans have been extremely conservative in free agency, typically looking to draft and build players from inside the team, completely overlooking that there are good players on other teams! I do genuinely believe that the growth of Nashville has played a huge role in getting players to want to come here. A new head coach promising a high flying offense with points points points, and a fun growing city helped us get some of these guys.
Receiver has been an issue in Tennessee for years, even before the AJ Brown days, and especially since then. Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd being brought in, is one of the most exciting free agency moves we’ve had in a long long time. Both receivers in their prime, coming off 800-1000 receiving yard seasons last year, whoa mama I’m excited.
The Secondary and Defensive backs have never been a strong suit in Tennessee either. So Ran goes out and gets two of the top level cornerbacks in Sneed and Chido, and a ton of veteran depth at Safety with Jamal Adams (former pro bowl might still have it) and Quandre Diggs.
The best part about a lot of these additions is that the Colts got nobody, we stole Ridley from the Jags, and that will always make me happy.
Week 1 Baby : Bears Edition/Season Outlook
Let’s go ahead and get this out of the way now, Vegas has the Titans winning 6.5 games this year. Abysmal. Outrageous. Hurtful. Now don’t get me wrong, we could go 6-11, I can see it in my mind already. Or, what if we win 10 games. I’m just asking! These are just the questions the people want to hear and I can’t help that. With Cally coming in with a hot new playbook and style, a revamped defense, young athletic big boys everywhere, and Will Levis looking more like the guy everyday, we’re looking more and more like the dark horse of the year. The haters will say, “this is bias” and “Anthony Richardson is the guy”, but in reality, Titans had one of the best offseasons in the league, and AR15 can’t throw a slant.
I see week on in Chicago as a classic Welcome to the NFL Moment for Caleb Williams. Bears have done some really great things this year and I have them as a potential Wild Card team, but it entirely relies on Caleb Williams and I don’t think he’s going to be as prepared for Week 1 as he thinks he will. Titans have a gritty run stuff style of defense with lots of big boys up front, meaning more than likely, Bears are going to have to throw it to win this game. That forces him to have to move the ball around a lot, which I am sure they were already planning on doing, but it takes away a part of the game that rookie quarterbacks tend to rely on. This also gives us a really great opportunity to see how Sneed and the new Titans secondary looks and if they’re actually good players, or if they fall victim to the Titans DB curse.
Final prediction ; Titans 27 Bears 17
Titans win with Up-Tempo offense and big plays. I think this offense is led by the running backs and getting the ball in their hands in space, and opening up the field and taking the lid off with bombs.
Caleb plays well with a few mistakes but is running from pressure all game, Titans choke them out. Titans go 1-0 easy.
Thanks for being patient and listening to me rant again, very excited for this NFL season and we will be back to posting blogs regularly.
Heard the Haters were not feeling great right now. Titans back.
