Checking on the Haters

  • At Least we’re not the Jags

    January 30th, 2025

Titans were an obvious dumpster fire this past season. This we know. However, this season was special. We had more garbage teams than I can remember for a long time.

This might have been the most high end – low end season ever. A clear top 6-7 teams, and a dramatic drop off after that. Then you have 6-7 teams that are battling for who can lose the most. We’re gonna get a deep dive on some of these teams and what went wrong.

We’ve talked extensively about the Titans, so we’re going to start with the Cleveland Browns.

Browns, what happened? You were in the playoffs not that long ago! Remember when Deshaun Watson was so good on the Texans? What about your defense, they used to be really good right? The Browns completely self imploded on themselves this year, and to me, a lot of that blame falls on owner Jimmy Haslam.

Obviously you can look back now and say, “why would we ever pay Watson that much for that long!” and you would be warranted in saying that. Even when he got signed, people asked these questions. The lawsuits aside (bad guy), it’s still extremely hard for a quarterback to come back from multiple knee, ankle and foot injuries, especially after not playing for so long from his suspension. Then you combine that with Stefanski being an actual decent coach, and trying to get the best and most out of his guys. It was pretty apparent to me watching Browns games, that Stefanski didn’t want to play Deshaun. He was extremely limited on his movement and escapability, part of what made him so good in Houston, and him not having that and being a complete distraction off the field, led to a horrible situation. Stefanski doesn’t want to play him anymore, but Jimmy Haslam just paid him 200 million dollars, so you have to play that guy right? Then you add in the losses, defense took a decline and then get disheartened from all the losses, and you get a 4 win season. It’s a little easier to point out where they went wrong, because it all seems to stem from the Deshaun trade.

Now let’s talk Raiders. Tom Brady will fix it, he has 6 super bowls! Not so fast pal! Don’t forget the Raiders are the prototype for a dumpster fire. I loved the two quarterback dynamic with Gardner Minshew and AOC. Gotta get a look at both guys! Really opens your mind and makes you think, “wow, these guys can really do whatever they want”. It boggles my mind that those are the two they ended up with this past season. I think both of them can be fantastic back up quarterbacks with long careers, but they’re not starting NFL quarterbacks.

With no real answer at quarterback, losing Josh Jacobs and Davantae Adams, the Raiders were destined to be stinky. What’s new. Mark Davis is too busy pre-ordering P.F. Chang’s for next season to know what the hell is going on. Maybe Tom can help, but I’m worried they’ll run into a Michael Jordan Hornets situation. Nobody can ever live up to the expectations of an insane person who was also the best ever at that job. It creates a horrible chemistry and atmosphere in the building that will keep a team in the dumps.

Last team. Let’s talk Jags. Jagging off.

Liam Cohen. The answer? Duval? I haven’t stopped thinking about that video since it came out. His tone. His eyebrows. The facial expression. It’s pure gold. My favorite part of this has been the Jags PR team desperately trying to show, “He’s a normal guy! He’s not that weird!”. It’s so awesome.

Jags fell apart, per usual, in a hilarious explosive way. Trevor Lawrence had an almost decline season(?), doesn’t live up the expectations, and gets horrifically injured in national TV. Golden boy isn’t working. Doug Peterson hangs onto his job, somehow, all season and is fired after week 18. Hilarious he kept his job for so long. Trent Baalke, somehow, keeps his job all season. Jags say they’re not firing him. Ben Johnson, Mike Vrabel, LIAM COHEN, and others say if Baalke stays, they don’t want the job. Jags secretly meet with Liam Cohen, who has already accepted the Buccs OC job and does not have their permission to interview (stupid on their part but we’re talking Jags), and end up firing Baalke to cater to Cohen. Cohen takes the secret job, becomes the biggest nerd in the NFL in 10 seconds, and we’re back to Jagging off. Classic Jags, it never gets old.

All of this to say, the Titans may have had a terrible year, but we can fix this. We have some pieces, and the number 1 pick in the draft. Are we in a better position from these teams? Maybe, maybe not. But, I’m more confident the Titans can figure something out than I would be in these other 3 teams.

Rereading this last paragraph really made me think maybe we’re in a worse position. But we have 1.1! No bad thoughts here!

    Haters are fine

    Titans are on the clock

At least we’re not the Jags
