Back to the Old Titans

I am stunned. I haven’t written in a few weeks, the season was over and my heart was sad. At least we got to stop the Jags from making the playoffs. That should be a great way to end a disappointing season right?

Well just you wait cause Miss Amy has fully taken over and Mike Vrabel is gone. Former coach of the year, 2x Superbowl champ, 4 winning seasons, AFC championship, and he’s gone. This might be one of the single worst Titans moves I have ever seen.

Firing Vrabel

The final formula to destroying the Titans as we know it.

I have a few theories why this happened, especially how it did, and I think things are going nowhere but down from here, which is saying a lot after going 6-11.

My first and leading theory is that Miss Amy got too big for her britches, panicked, made Vrabel the scapegoat, and chose Ran instead. Its like if Amy and Vrabes were dating for 6 years, things went really well had some great times and a good future, then they hit a rough patch, and out of nowhere comes this California guy in fresh Nikes. Then when things get a little muddied, Amy picks the new guy over the bread and butter. It just feels like a shiny new toy, grass is always greener situation. She needed somebody to blame for the past two seasons, so they rush into a firing, without getting any compensation, and say Ran is in charge.

I genuinely think this is the worst move we’ve ever made, and I would not be surprised in the slightest if Vrabel has another superbowl somewhere else in the next couple years.

The other big theory is Mike and Ran never got along. I’ve seen this a lot, that they differed on ideas about how the future of the franchise should play out, personel, and coaching staff, so they go with the new guy. Vrabel was openly upset about Kevin Byard, and Ran obviously wanted to trade Derrick and Tannehill. Reports of players possibly being shopped don’t just happen, those reports have to come from the teams, so obviously Ran was looking into shipping both of them and probably other players. Vrabel was almost loyal to a fault with his guys, leading to issues with trading players, and coaching staff moves, causing some tension between Vrabes and Ran.

Now, this one is still under my own personal investigation. After watching Ran’s presser after today’s firing, he said that he and Vrabel got along, had a similar vision for the future, and were cut from the same cloth.

That doesn’t sound like something somebody would say about a guy they don’t like who just got fired. It completely contradicts what has been said all season about Mike and Ran and the whole front office.

Another inconsistency I noticed, a big reason Ran got hired to begin with was that he was adamant he could make this team a contender without a full rebuild. Now, the front office is saying they agreed with what Ran wanted to do, sell as many assets as possible to build up draft capital, their salary cap, and start from scratch. Again, this just completely contradicts what has been said in pressers from the front office and Miss Amy since this past offseason.

I think that the front office had no idea what they wanted to do, they just knew they had to make a change and Vrabel was the centerpiece of that. I have no evidence of this, but I think that Miss Amy is the classic rich person, I don’t care how, but this needs to be fixed right now, type of person. Two losing seasons, she got impatient and made a hasty decision. She’s been able to hit on some really great players and staff moves, but I think that she is taking too large a role. Call me old fashioned, but I think that owners should supply the money and let the GMs be GMs, the coaches be coaches, and the players be players. In my opinion, you have to let the people do their jobs.

My last big thought on this whole debacle, I think the roster gets almost completely cleaned out. No way Derrick comes back with no Vrabes. I’m worried Vrabel loyalists like Big Jeff, Harold Landry, and DHop are going to want out. The locker room loved Vrabel and they wanted him as coach for a long time. He was nothing if not a culture and team guy. The team completely changed when he became coach. I think theres a handful of good players who won’t want to play for a new coach in Nashville, or they don’t like the direction of the team (just like me frfr).

I’m just rambling now, today has been sad, angry and sad again. I hope this blog made sense, I will not be reading it again, it would make me angry all over again and I am finally coming to terms with the new future.

I think Vrabel made his bed and certainly wasn’t perfect (not a great offensive coach, too loyal to his guys, and a few silly game decisions), but I think that this is a huge mistake and we are going to regret it this time next year.

Hard to find a great new coach when the best coach available is the one you fired.

I am not excited for the future of this team, I am worried. I don’t think we’ll ever be good again, never ever. All I can do is wait and see and probably be upset.

Haters have won today and tomorrow.

Titans are deader than dead.
